A major international congress was held in our city last week, drawing thousands of delegates to a tall glass tower overlooking a quiet bay. From the early morning, taxis arrived in steady rows, leaving travelers and their luggage at the main entrance. At the summit, world leaders gathered to discuss climate, trade, and global health. Each country had sent a delegation with carefully prepared envelopes of documents and small wooden boxes of representative goods to be presented as gifts. The opening reception offered a chance to greet colleagues from many years past. The host nation provided light meals; each portion of food was small but tasteful, designed to allow conversation rather than feasting.

Behind the scenes, dozens of staff worked through the night to prepare the rooms. They unloaded grocery boxes for the kitchen, set up colorful fabric banners on every wall, and even brought in a tall ladder to fix the lighting in the central yard. During each session, delegates rushed between meeting rooms, holding a slim purse or a phone, sometimes glancing at the morning newspaper's political cartoon as they passed the busy press room near the elevator.

Each session had a complex component — opening speeches, panel discussions, careful question and answer periods. Attendees often chose one session option over another based on personal interest or the language of the speaker. There was one small incident on the second day: a translator misread a key term, and a single shared premise was momentarily confused. The chair, however, quickly clarified the meaning, and the discussion moved on with a smile. Even the fare for travel and the usage of conference rooms had been negotiated months in advance. By Friday evening, exhausted delegates left a polite tip for the hotel staff and headed home, carrying small folders of new ideas back to their own offices.
